Abstract. The current state of Ukrainian folk crafts and handicrafts was researched, the products of which with clear ethnonational features have been a well-recognized and respected marker of Ukraine on the international arena for more than a hundred years.

It is noted that despite the uniqueness and charming perfection of the domestic traditional decorative and applied art, which has its roots in the depths of the centuries, Ukrainian society in the early XXI century faced a certain confrontation between the aesthetic ideals of the global unification of the personal material needs and the ideological recognition of national traditional forms in the everyday subject environment. And until recently, such contradictions were not in favor of the centuries-old artistic traditions of our people. The urgency of the accelerated formation of national style and the expansion of tendencies of national self-identification, especially among young people, is not due to reflections on the past, but a conscious daring attempt to find the face of their nation on the modern creative map of the world.

It is focused that the education of nationally conscious young design professionals is one of the most important functions of today's education. And such education is not possible without a thorough research analysis of the past, and without a creative rethinking of the forms and decorative and ornamental concepts of naive folk art of various domestic regional centers. The epoch of postmodernism, thanks to "games" in quoting with the cultural strata of nations, will only hide the ease of interpretations of the national folk cultural and historical heritage by the younger generation of future Ukrainian designers.
